About

I am passionate about working with children and youth, as well as adult individuals. I will listen to your story with care and compassion as you share whatever is on your mind and heart. As your counselor, I am committed to providing a non-judgmental, emotionally available approach as we seek to determine which tools will best serve you in your current circumstances. My ultimate goal is for you to be able to begin pursuing your core values and as a result of our work together, grow in your confidence of yourself and your God.

My Goal as a Christian Counselor

My goal as your counselor is to empower you to find a more accurate and defined version of your true self. As we work together to discover your core values, I hope you will also discover which aspects of life you want to pursue more, and what you want to do less of. As we seek to follow God’s lead and direction, we will take steps toward realizing those goals and achieving the wholeness and growth you desire.

What I Offer in Christian Counseling

I offer a non-judgmental space where you can feel comfortable, heard, validated, and respected as you share whatever concerns are on your mind and heart. In our time together I will follow your lead to address whatever issues you want to discuss, offering faith-based encouragement and therapeutic activities when appropriate.

My Approach to Christian Counseling

My faith is a major defining part of who I am and informs my practice greatly. For those clients who are also Christians and wish to incorporate faith into our sessions, one benefit is that as brothers and sisters in Christ, we share the value of Christ-centeredness, and the ability to discuss aspects of faith is normalized.

Biography

Qualifications & Experience

I hold a Master of Arts in School Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, both from Portland State University.

My Call to Christian Counseling

Working at a youth summer camp for the Salvation Army gave me the drive to pursue working with people, especially as a counselor.

More About Me/On a Personal Note

I enjoy the outdoors a lot. Catch me riding a bike, hiking a trail, or swimming in a nearby lake or river, and I’ll be smiling ear to ear. Someday, I aspire to walk the PCT trail in its entirety. I also love animals, reading, drawing, and playing different sports. I played baseball and wrestled when I was younger, which engrained in me the idea of hard work being the backbone of a great life.

Abandonment and Neglect

Have you experienced abandonment or neglect? I can help you with a non-judgmental, empathetic ear. I’m here to allow space for your feelings without interruption, showing you I am here to understand. With physical and emotional consistency, I offer a sense of stability and balance. We can talk about ways to have healthy boundaries with others and how to provide self-care for yourself while dealing with these often painful emotions.

Trauma

Trauma can provide a disorienting picture of what life looks like. It changes how we think about ourselves and how we trust others who come close to us, even if they are safe. It’s possible for this weight and shame to be lifted away from us and reshaped into a part of ourselves that is resilient, brave, and whole. I’d like to help you break free from any trauma that you have been a part of or witnessed, and provide relief.

Children and Teens

My passion for working with children and adolescents started early on in my career. I have been on staff (in various roles) for a Christian Summer Camp through the Salvation Army. This has led me to see and feel the value in youth having a positive, Christ-centered role model. My goal is to provide a safe space for children and adolescents to express themselves openly while being their authentic selves. I strive to connect with and understand both the difficult things that are going on in youth, as well as the promising and exciting. Children and youth are not exempt from experiencing depression, anger, anxiety, self-esteem concerns, and many other symptoms that we often only ascribe to adults. I want to connect with children and youth and provide a way for them to feel empowered to deal with tough emotions.

Men’s Issues

Society has linked countless demands to being a man. What are we, as men, truly meant to achieve? How can we aspire to this higher calling and improve aspects of our lives, such as our relationships, work-life balance, health, and spirituality? Our heightened expectations may come with a greater sense of stress, depression, or low self-esteem. Together, we will explore these struggles and discuss strategies for coping and moving forward.

Chemical Dependency

In a non-judgmental and open manner, I want to help you explore the underlying factors contributing to the dependency you may be facing. Processing these factors, such as trauma, feelings of anxiety, depression, or PTSD is key for assisting you to understand the root causes of chemical dependency. We can also help to recognize triggers for substance use and develop strategies to avoid or manage these triggers, such as stress or social situations where temptation occurs. Recovery is often a long-term process. I would be honored to walk with you along your journey.
